Itune Meme

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn your music player on and turn it on random.
3. Write a drabble/ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the length of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do five of these and post them.

written first in french then translated by myself. (english still not my first language)

The Cold Song – Klaus Nomi

Suddenly, Miranda felt the coldness of October, waiting on the steps of this Parisian palace, as she looked her assistant walking away. She saw the determinate walk. She knew that she wouldn't come back even if she called her. Because she will call her. She won't be able to do otherwise. Another one who leaves her. Another one whom she forced to leave. Her clothes don't protect her anymore from the coldness, don't protect her from anything anymore. The Ice Queen feels naked. The Ice Queen indeed.

La vie de Cocagne – Jeanne Moreau

She would never have thought that she could know true happiness. But it was at last her life. It wasn't trouble anymore to come back earlier at home. The townhouse was really a home now. She opened the door. Voices could be heard from the kitchen : the twins and Andrea… The slamming of the door woke her up. Her soon to be former second assistant was bringing the Book. She missed her interrupted dream but knew that she would find it again once she'd close her eyes.

Walking on water – Melissa Etheridge

Miranda had managed to chase someone from her life. One more time. But this time, it was unacceptable. She knew that Andrea was THE love of her life and she couldn't lose her. She was Miranda fucking Priestly and she'd do whatever it takes, even if she knew that for Andrea, she would make the biggest of the change: she'd change herself and her habits. To change at 50… but that was the price for Andrea's love.

Andy closed quietly the door behind her. She straightened the collar of her jacket and walked to the nearby subway station. She couldn't realise she had spent the night with Miranda for the first time after months of a strange relationship where they talked then didn't talk anymore, where they saw each other then didn't see each other anymore. She couldn't explain it with too much alcohol: They hadn't drink. It had suddenly been obvious, and for once, Miranda didn't deny the obvious. And this morning, everything seemed glowing, the sky clearer, the sun more shining, her steps lighter.

It's alright (Baby's coming back) – Eurythmics.

Miranda checked, one more time, that everything was as perfect as possible. When Andrea had called her after three weeks of silence, she could have dropped on her knees. Everything was her own fault, of course and she should have been taking the first step but she didn't know how. If Andrea was willing to give her a second chance, she wouldn't be dumb to let it go. And yes, this time, for once, she would know how to be whom Andrea needed. It'd be hard but there was no other way. Her life depended on it.

And in french :

The Cold Song – Klaus Nomi

Walking on Water – Melissa Etheridge

It's alright (Baby's Coming Back) – Eurythmics

I thought these were just beautiful. "La vie de Cocagne" was so heartwrenchingly sad, and I thought the imagery in "Les fleurs..." was wonderful. Especially interesting was the line "for once, Miranda didn't deny the obvious." I really liked the idea that that's what she does as a character.

Thank you for your kind comments.

This meme in funny and when you have so little time to write something in relation with a song, it's curious the kind of ideas that can pop under your fingers on the keyboard.

Loved these!! Les fleurs me paraissent plus belles – "Lakmé" de Léo Delibes is one of my favorite pieces of opera. I absolutely adore it. If that song had popped up on my itunes playlist for mine, I am sure it would have conjured up The Hunger :D

When this song popped up, I was almost tempted to cheat and use the duet "Viens, Malika" (the one heard during "The Hunger") but this song has its own merits ans there was something to do with it.

Thank you for bringing this meme to the community

Lol no problem...

Yes... Lakme is one of my favorite Operas in general. I am familiar with both pieces.

If I had done six of these, the next song on my itunes was actually Les Desmoiselles De Rochersfort. That would have been the strangest prompt.

I can't remember what was the 6th song but I do remember that I thought that there would have been something to do with it too.

Lakmé is one of my favorite operas too. I was lucky enough to see it on stage 10 or 15 years ago with Natalie Dessay as Lakmé... sigh

"Les Demoiselles de Rochefort" at first, I thought it would be hard with "Nous sommes deux soeurs jumelles..." but, but DWP has twins !!

Now, I have to try and listen to some music without thinking about a new drabble.

Ohhh that's true! I never even imagined the twins... I went right to the main event Mirandyness! But you're right.

"La Vie de Cocagne" is a beautiful song and Jeanne Moreau is one of my favorite french actress (I saw her on stage last spring and it was... wow) so when this one popped up, I had to do something good : the muse was with me.

Oh, well then. I can't believe I missed that, but then I am not so surprised at myself. I can be so very linear and foccused on goals. *sigh*

Thanks for pointing that out to me, I probably stared right at it when I had finished the English and did not react.

(I read French you see, but as I said, I am very linear sometimes, and can be utterly oblivious.)

You did a very good job at translating to English.

Thank you for sharing, and for your patience with my sillyness.

my precedent comment ate a smiley. Since the french text was there, I wasn't sure you were asking for them but maybe wondering about the lyrics of the two french songs.

Thank you for confirming that my translation is adequate. I'm still a little bit unsure about my skills in translating from french to english. The next step will be to write in english without the phase of translation (which I've done for the microfic challenge but we were speaking about microfic)

;-)

A long, long time ago, I wrote in Finnish. This was when dinosaurs walked the earth, though. It can be quite startling to transition to another language, but also very liberating. I wish you luck and look forward to anythign that you produce. :)
